The Duarte Unified Choral Department is comprised of six choirs from Duarte High School and our four academies - Royal Oaks, Beardslee, Andres Duarte, and Maxwell. Our choirs are Cardinal Chorale, our junior high combined chorus, Ambassadors, our women’s festival choir, Chamber Ensemble 1 and 2, our two mixed choirs, Cantabile, our competitive show choir, and Concert Choir, a mixed group of members of various choirs. Our choirs are given vocal training and dance training, learn how to read and write music, and sing in various languages, styles, and genres. Throughout the school year, all of our choirs travel to various performances, music festivals and competitions, competing against other schools in their division.

In the last few years, our choirs have received numerous accolades and awards at various festivals, competitions, and performances throughout Southern California, including First Place, High Musicianship and High Showmanship at Los Alamitos HS Xtravaganza in 2018. We have had the privilege of singing at world renowned venues, from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, to the Commonwealth Games in Scotland via Virtual Youth Choir with Eric Whitacre, to this past school year when we sang for the Broadway Classics concert at Carnegie Hall with Broadway legends, including Lea Salonga, Ramin Karimloo, Laura Osnes, and Sierra Boggess. Our show choir Cantabile has sung under the baton of notable conductors Grant Gershon, Rollo Dilworth, Francisco Nunez, and Kevin Stites.  Cantabile also made their television debut in 2016 on the show "Hit Record" hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the music video "Back To Class".

In the last few years, our district has been adopted by VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Through our partnership, our students were invited to host the “Rockstar Zone” at the unveiling of the new Zendaya Barbie doll at the Hollywood Palladium and participated in the launch of the new Just Dance 2016 video game in Venice Beach at the Microsoft Lounge, where they were treated to a private concert with pop star Meghan Trainor and were featured in the Just Dance 2016 online promotional video. This past year, our choir has performed at Anaheim Stadium, Carnegie Hall, Paramount Studios, Viacom, and the Ace Theatre in Los Angeles for VH1's "Dear Mama" event, where we sang for music stars Ne-Yo, Jessie J, P Diddy, and Queen Latifah.
